This map shows the amount of CO2 emissions, in tons, caused by vehicle travel by county for the continental United States. As the map demonstrates, high CO2 emissions occur in areas with high vehicle travel, such as along interstates and in densely populated regions. This map is created from 1999 data acquired by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.
